A Marvel of Stone Carving Artistry
This extraordinary stone sculpture, intricately carved from high-grade light-colored marble (or similar fine-grained stone), presents a unique and powerful depiction of the Virat Swaroop (Universal Form) of Lord Ganesha. It is not merely an idol, but a complete divine panchayatana (mandala) contained within a single piece.
Standing on an elaborately tiered, multi-level pedestal, the central four-armed Ganesha form is the nexus of a grand cosmic scheme. The central figure is depicted with a multi-layered crown, a trunk curling with a sweet, and four main hands (holding an ax, a broken tusk, a modak bowl, and a lower right hand in a rare offering-downwards gesture). He is draped in fine angavastram and heavily adorned.
The true uniqueness lies in the detailed panels that surround the central figure, integrated within the grand, multi-lobed arch (Prabhavali). Within these panels, hundreds of small, precise carvings depict other key deities, including Saraswati and Lakshmi at the top-sides, various forms of Ganesha, and multiple figures representing the Saptarishis (Seven Sages) and the divine Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh). Each figure is carved with distinct attributes, creating a complex spiritual narrative.
The base of the sculpture is equally detailed, featuring a stylized peacock vahanam below the central figure, a prominent mouse vahanam at his feet, and various small animal figures and ritual offering bowls. The craftsmanship is of a breathtaking caliber, with deep undercutting, delicate filigree, and meticulous attention to detail on every surface. This large-scale piece (evident from the human hand for context) is a museum-quality artifact of contemporary Indian temple stone artistry. It is presented in a master craftsman's workshop, currently in a state of final refinement or a newly completed, raw-stone finish, awaiting its permanent consecration in a grand home or temple. The sheer density of forms makes it one of the most comprehensive stone depictions of Ganesha ever created.
